The Cold Water Cold Tea Project

Subject: Cold Water Cold Tea Project

Synopsis: An experiment to prove the feasabilty of making tea without the use of energy, in the form of electricity (via a kettle, portable tea maker for the diserning traveller, teasmade), gas (via a stove, hotplate, arga, fireplace), coal (via an arga, fireplace), charcol (via a barbecue), microwave (via an oven), in order to be truely environmental.

Date of initial experiment: 27072000

Date of tasting: 28072000

Required: Half pint of cold water and one Twinnings Earl Gey Tea bag.

Method:Left at the top of a fridge at the back to catch the warm convection currents.
One day later tea transferred to a cup and heated in microwave.  Smells like tea, looks like tea, and by jove it tastes like tea.  It must be tea.!

The Results of the first experiment
[large image]
Results: In this photo the tea has already been transfered from the half pint glass
to the tea cup.  The half pint glass contains water that is rinsing it
out.

Original team members: Nick Williams, Mark Jenkins

Input Provided by: Colin Hannah (Don't waste energy using a microwave),
Mark Sayers, Laura Eaton (Don't waste energy energy on a fridge)

Camera provided by: Andrew Woodard.

Future improvements: Use loose tea.

Points Raised (NW):
Was this done in laboratory conditions?
Have you thought about trying this experiment at absolute zero?
What about if you repeat the experiment with some kind of virtual teabag?

Other Points: An import company already exists. Matthew Strain has a collegue, Tim
Duffy, who does exactly this. The tea created in this manner acquires a
more mellow tea taste
