Subject: Energy being wasted! Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 12:27:52 +0100 From: "Nick Williams (UK)" To: "greenonline@greenonline.co.uk" Dear Mr Greenonline, I am writing to you as a concerned member of the public. I am in fact concened by a great many things but perhaps the issue uppermost in my mind at the moment is the large amounts of energy which are wasted every year boiling up water to make cups of tea. While I concede that tea is indeed the Great British publics favourite beverage, and I have no problem with this, surely there is a more energy efficient method of preparing this beverage. ( I have even heard of people who will fill a whole teapot with boiling water in order to make one cup! Shudder!) I have done some rough calculations on the back of an old envelope to support this concern and the results seem to suggest that if we all started making tea with say, cold water ( I have no idea if this is possible ), then we would save enough electricity to light up the whole of High Wycombe High Street for 15 seconds. I would be very interested to know of any existing research into this problem. Yours, nick.
