GreenOnline Environmental, and otherwise, Policy
- GreenOnline tries to use as little paper, and other throwaway material, as possible.
- Recycling is a main priority.
- Seeing as a majority of web uses don't have high speed links and Pentium IIIs at their disposal, in the interest of speed, the web interface is kept as simple as possible. No animated gifs, No coloured backdrops (that take ages to redraw), No cascading style sheets, No web interfaces that automatically exclude 70% of your audience, blah, blah. As speed of download also relates to the use of electricity, simple web interfaces are more ecological too! For those you that don't believe this imagine let me expand: A simple task, such as a search on the web , will take a lot longer if all of the sites visited require lengthly downloads of useless gifs, jpegs etc (which sure - "enhance" the users experience), than simple factual sites, thus requiring that the user's machine will be long for a longer period thus consuming more electricity, thus poluting the atmosphere more... blah, blah...
- Following on from the previous point, it is also important to ensure that if the user does not require, or is not able to, to view images, that the page is still easy to naviagte without them.
- To ensure that if the user is using a web page reading service, that the links read intelligibly, and not just "Click Here".
- Any details that you enter will not be then forwarded on to irritating agencies, which then flood your letterboxes, email and snail mail, with useless unecological junk (vinyl paper is difficult to recycle often resulting in a low yield), and telephone you at all hours, at home (trying to sell yet another labour-saving and unecological appliance: we all have muscles, lets not let then waste away, so that we become like the people working in the aforementioned agencies) and work (trying to tempt you with a job even more poorly paid than the one you already have!)
Design decisions
White was chosen as background colour for clarify and to illustrate the purity of the site.
See the same effect at Appple's website,
then compare this with the crazy and busy interface of a warez site.
